Scout of the week |
Welcome to 86th Derby Scouts page
We welcome all young people of Scout age into our group either moving up from Cubs or external applicants. If you are looking to join Scouts, please continue to read about us below and fill in the form at the bottom of the page.
The membership for Scouts runs from just after their 10th birthday until their 14th Birthday. Scouts are the oldest section our group and the 3rd section within the Scout Association. Cubs come before and Explorers after, all Scouts are guaranteed a place within Explorers (located within other groups).
The termly subscription for Scouts is £43 and this is payable via our online system Online Scout Manager.
All payments for activities, events and general subs are paid via this system through a secure portal. You will be given access once your child has joined the section. This £43 include all fees set by the Scout Association.
The Scouts wear a smart uniform made up of a
- Dark Green Scout Shirt
- Green and Grey neckerchief (Scouts supply)
- Group Badges including worldwide membership badge. (Scouts supply)
Uniform is available to purchase from the Scout Shop online or from the local shop in Derby, Normanton,
120 Osmaston Rd,
Derby,
DE1 2RF.
We recommend going to the local shop to support Derby East scouting along with being able to try on the clothes due to the sizes being slightly different to normal clothing. Please look online for the shops opening hours as they can vary.
Scouts will earn a variety of badges over their four years in Scouts. Their aim is to complete all requirements including other badges in order to achieve their Chief Scout Gold Award which is the highest award available in the Scout section. This follows on from the Chief Scout Silver Award in Cubs. Scouts would aim to start working towards this award when they start with us and aim to have it completed by their 14th birthday. The different badges in the cub scouts include challenge, staged and activity badges, more specific information can be found on the Scouts website.
On a nightly basis Scouts will participate in a wide range of activities such as fire lighting, pioneering, games, adventurous activities and trips. In the summertime we also like to take advantage of the nice weather and spend some time doing outdoor activities. All year round we like to spend some time out in the wilderness camping.
When we say trips, we like to include swimming, zoo, beach, bowling, crazy golf and laser tag and adventurous activities include archery, high ropes, caving, open campfire cooking and hiking.
All activities that we provide all link in with the scouts ambition of teaching all young people skills for life. #skillsforlife
Our Cubs section meets in the unusual location of the local county campsite, Drum Hill, DE21 5AH.
See map below for the location.
