Welcome to 86th Derby Cubs page
We welcome all young people of Cub age into our group either moving up from Beavers or external applicants. If you are looking to join Cubs, please continue to read about us below and fill in the form at the bottom of the page.
The membership for Cubs runs from their 8th birthday until just after their 10th Birthday. Cubs is the second youngest section within the Scout Association. Beavers come before and Scouts after, all Cubs are guaranteed a place within the Scout Troop.
The termly subscription for Cubs is £38 and this is payable via our online system Online Scout Manager.
All payments for activities, events and general subs are paid via this system through a secure portal. You will be given access once your child has joined the section. This £38 include all fees set by the Scout Association.
The Cubs wear a distinctive uniform made up of a
- Dark Green sweatshirt
- Dark Green polo top
- Green and Grey neckerchief (Cubs supply)
- Group Badges including worldwide membership badge. (Cubs supply)
Uniform is available to purchase from the Scout Shop online or from the local shop in Derby, Normanton,
120 Osmaston Rd,
We recommend going to the local shop to support Derby East scouting along with being able to try on the clothes due to the sizes being slightly different to normal clothing. Please look online for the shops opening hours as they can vary.
Cubs will earn a variety of badges over their two years in Cubs. Their aim is to complete all requirements including other badges in order to achieve their Chief Scout Silver Award which is the highest award available in the Cubs section. This follows on from the Chief Scout Bronze Award in Beavers. Cubs would aim to start working towards this award when they start with us and aim to have it completed after their 10th birthday. The different badges in the cub scouts include challenge, staged and activity badges, more specific information can be found on the Scouts website.
On a nightly basis Cubs will participate in a wide range of activities such as fire lighting, pioneering, games, adventurous activities and trips. In the summertime we also like to take advantage of the nice weather and spend some time doing outdoor activities. All year round we like to spend some time out in the wilderness camping.
When we say trips, we like to include swimming, zoo, beach, bowling, crazy golf and laser tag and adventurous activities include archery, high ropes, caving, open campfire cooking and hiking.
All activities that we provide all link in with the scouts ambition of teaching all young people skills for life. #skillsforlife
